Public
Idaho is home to 705 traditional public schools located throughout the state. The largest school district, West Ada, serves nearly 40,000 students. Idaho is an open enrollment state, meaning parents have the option to transfer between public schools.

Idaho robust public charter school system is one of the most successful in the nation. With 78 public charters located throughout the state, parents can choose among the schools that are consistently top performing. However, some schools have waiting lists.
Private
Private schools come in all shapes and sizes, including religious, non-religious, specialty, classical and more. There are 155 private schools located throughout the state, serving more than 16,000 students.

Homeschool or Microschool
The Gem State has one of the nation's strongest home schooling laws, giving parents the flexibility they need to help their child succeed. More than 20,000 Idaho students participate in home schooling.

Magnet
Magnet schools are typically free public schools offering students specialized curriculum, such as STEM, performing arts, or language. Idaho has 21 magnet schools with nearly 9,000 students.

Online
Idaho has several tuition-free, K-12 online public schools, including Idaho Virtual Academy and Insight School of Idaho. These are considered public schools.
